Part of the Clayton Hotel Limerick, the pool at Club Vitae Leisure Centre is perfect for families. The 12-metre heated indoor pool welcomes families every day from 9 am to 5 pm. You can enjoy stunning views of the River Shannon as you swim, and the pool’s 4-metre depth is kept throughout. There’s a lifeguard on duty at all times and armbands etc can be purchased from the leisure centre reception. Entrance to the Club Vitae Leisure centre is free for guests of Clayton Hotel Limerick.
See the animals and have some fun at Stonehall Visitor Farm and Wildlife Park
Stonehall Wildlife Park is the perfect spot for a family day out in Limerick whatever the weather. Visit the Llamas, Alpacas, Ostriches, Emus and other animals when the sun is shining and have your lunch ‘alfresco’. Should the weather turn, which it usually does in Ireland, head indoors to the small pet area and the play area where you’ll find go karts and a bouncy castle.
Follow the Fairy Trail at Lough Gur Heritage Centre
Lough Gur is home to Ireland’s oldest and largest stone circle and it’s also the residence of Fer Fí – the King of the fairies. You’ll find his throne at the entrance to Lough Gur Heritage Centre and just beyond that you’ll find a set of 100 steps – climb these steps to witness some breath-taking scenery and to find where the fairies live.
When you’ve completed the trail, the Heritage Centre at Lough Gur has over 6,000 years of Irish history to share with its visitors through its exciting interactive exhibitions.
Test your skills at Basecamp Adventure Centre
Set on 80 acres of forest and parklands, Basecamp offer family adventure packs to help you bond and get you working together. Choose from paintball, archery or a bush craft experience and bring a picnic for when it’s time to refuel. The family activities are suitable for children aged 7 and up so grab the kids and get ready for an adventure!
Go Kayaking on the River Shannon with Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre
Families with older and teenage children can learn to kayak at an introductory session with Kilfinane on the calm lake waters of Lough Gur. Kayaks, paddles, wetsuits, helmets and buoyancy aids are all provided, and the centre has changing facilities at the lake. If you’ve taken to kayaking and you’re feeling brave, you can book a whitewater session and paddle your way down River Shannon.
Travel back to medieval times with a visit to King John’s Castle
King John’s Castle brings over 800 years of Irish history to life through its interactive exhibitions with touch screen technology, 3D models and original medieval furnishings. Families are invited to relive history with their Medieval Experience where you’ll join costumed guides in an interpretative re-enactment of life as a Norman Soldier inside King John’s Castle.
Do some arts and crafts at the Hunt Museum
Taking inspiration from the Hunt Museum’s fascinating collections, each Sunday there’s a themed arts and crafts session for children to take part in. For just €3 children will be provided with the materials and the guidance needed to recreate some of the standout pieces from the museum’s exhibits. Suitable for children aged 4 to 8, this workshop is the perfect way for children to learn while having fun.
Bounce it out at Jumplanes Indoor Trampoline Centre
Suitable for children aged 5 and up, Jumplanes is a must visit! Children can bounce safely on the open lane trampolines and play a friendly game of dodgeball with the soft balls provided. Trained staff are always nearby to ensure children’s safety at the centre. Entry is €8 for 55 minutes of bouncing – enough time to tire the kids out!
Race for 1st place at the National Kart Centre
Families with children from age 14 can avail of a group pass at the National Kart Centre for a truly exciting day out. Race on the go karting or drift karting tracks that feature raised pit lanes, digital signposts and real underpasses. Funworld is Limerick’s leading entertainment centre with attractions to suit all ages. They’ve got a large ten lane bowling alley and a game costs just €6.
