University of Limerick has a state of the art activity located on the university campus in Castletroy. Castletroy is located near Clayton Hotel Limerick – just 15 minutes by car or roughly 25 minutes by bus. The bus route takes you from Limerick city centre into the heart of campus at University of Limerick.
The Sports Arena in UL attracts amateur and professional teams throughout the year due to the state-of-the-art facilities it provides. The Arena itself is home to a 50 metre Olympic swimming pool which caters for spectators and draws crowds for all water sports events. The swimming pool is used for both recreational purposes and lanes. Swimming lessons are provided and the facility also has a sauna and steam room.
They gym in the Sports Arena has state-of-the-art fitness equipment and is one of the largest and most comprehensive gyms in Ireland and includes treadmills, steppers, bikes, rowing machines and cross trainers. It also has a national strength and conditioning centre which is a state-of-the-art weight training facility. It is home to many professional sports teams including Munster Rugby. The NSCC is for teams or group activity and must be pre-booked.
The indoor sports hall has four multipurpose courts, a 60 metre spring track and a three lane jogging track which caters for all needs. This space transforms into a 1,500 plus seated indoor arena and attracts high profile sporting events, shows, exhibitions and concerts.
Aswell as this, there is a range of fitness classes available in the arena that caters for all fitness levels and age groups.
Surrounding the Arena, you’ll find a range of astro-turf pitches, grass pitches and a full sized running track.
After experiencing all there is to offer in the activity centre, take a stroll around the impressive campus which stretches over the Shannon and into the neighbouring county of Clare. Soak up the atmosphere of student life and enjoy some picturesque scenery along the way.
