The Limerick City Gallery of Art, LCGA, is housed in a two storey building in picturesque surroundings of people’s park. Spread over two floors, this leading contemporary art gallery is home to a very important collection of Irish 18th to 21st century art amounting to nearly 900 works. Works are shown in eleven white cube spaces of varying size and dimensions with an expansive gallery showcasing the gallery’s large permanent collection which includes works by Camille Souter, William Orpen, Paul Henry and Evie Hone. Also housed in the gallery is the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing at the Michael O Connor International Poster Collection which comprises of nearly 3000 works of design.
Limerick City Gallery of Art hosts the annual e v+ a International (Exhibition of Visual+ Art): inviting a leading international curator to select from an open submission and invited artists to exhibit throughout Limerick City. The gallery has a strong educational ethos and programmes range of free contextual and family events to complement each exhibition season.
Limerick City Gallery of Art is a constituent body of Limerick City & County Council, and receives funding from the Arts Council Ireland for the exhibition schedule. It is also supported in funding by the Heritage Council of Ireland and FÁS.
